energy design Energy conservation, alternative systems, and passive strategies
provide the foundation for our firm’s sustainable design practice.

With over two decades devoted to designing architectural energy systems for our own commissions and for design teams across the country our office has a unique familiarity with what actually works and what doesn’t. Starting out as Sol-Arc and then BETA Inc. (Building and Energy Technical Analysis) our firm provided energy consulting services nationally to architects, engineers, and institutional clients prior to forming Philip Banta & Associates Architecture. Our strategy of arranging the building envelope and structure to serve as a passive energy framework is combined with proven practices for sustainable design to meet or exceed LEED and Greenbuilding standards:
  • Daylighting to reduce lighting and cooling load demands
  • Night ventilation using thermal mass to enhance cooling capacity
  • Natural ventilation for cooling and fresh air replacement
  • Passive solar orientation using building thermal mass for heating
  • Sunshading, external and internal, for solar gain control.
  • Photovoltaics, windpower, geothermal & alternate energy systems
  • Energy conservation measures that optimize life-cycle ROI
