| Custom residential renovation 6,000 sf, 2 stories, Type V Marin County, CA Private client The Equinox house renovation aimed at transforming the spirit of the existing structure to more fully engage the serenity and natural beauty of the site. The clients, the contractor and our office worked as one design team to transform the house into a set of loop pathways between gardens and interiors, creating a kind of museum-for-living where the view is treated as a great work of art. The house was fitted with an array of experimental climate, daylight and privacy control constructs including a glass floor that lifts to reveal an indoor/outdoor pool, a front gate of stainless steel rods that retracts into the driveway, a cylinder fireplace of frosted glass, adjustable blinds integral to the dual glazed windows, and a west facing stainless steel sunscreen. These systems all support the main stage: a landscaped view terrace of low retaining walls fanning out to create a view arc from sunrise to sunset at each equinox. |
