Providing livable urban density by matching a high-rise solution to downtown parkland:
Reaching 20 stories over a health club and landscaped pool terrace the Essex brings 270 concierge view apartments to the west shore of Lake Merritt, Oakland’s most beautiful urban asset. The curved concrete tower pioneers the vertical dimension in the city’s campaign to re-inspire a vital 24-hour downtown with a new residential community. Two 8-story components step down to relate to the existing mid-rise topography while all units use natural ventilation and sun control decks to modulate temperature. Walk around the lake, walk to work and services, and walk to local bus and BART regional mass transit.
