Residential renovation 5,400 sf, 1 storey, Type V Burlingame, CA Private client

At key points newly configured openings of folded window frames are introduced into a large modern house to strengthen the relationship with the site. Massing, detailing, and finishes in every room are simplified to draw attention to the luxuriant native vegetation.

At the living room and family room custom-fabricated windows angled into converging parallax geometries start a dialogue with a beautiful grove of Monterey pines swaying at the Western edge of the property. These new forms celebrate the site and invite the individual to reach out to the landscape. Each room enjoys a refreshed identity with extensive custom cabinetry, unique lighting, maple flooring, and stainless steel hardware and fixtures. In addition at the master bath rows of carefully matched translucent stone tiles produce a radiant glow when touched by the sun from windows and overhead skylights.
