Vacation house 2,800 sf, 1 story, Type V Seadrift community, Stinson Beach, CA private client
A strict grid floorplan integrates living space and open space on a narrow lot to create a versatile environment focused on water views across both Bolinas lagoon and the Seadrift canal.
An “H” plan with a central glass rotunda hinges together 2 blocks, one for common living areas, the other for private bedrooms. Between them landscaped squares overlooking the canal offer an outdoor room protected from the wind by the west wing of the house. A concrete floor slab provides ample mass for night ventilation cooling during the late summer and passive heat gain storage during the winter. The high ratio of perimeter to volume allows for cross ventilation through every room. Steel sash windows, copper roofing and a color integrated concrete floor combine with an exposed wood roof to create a bright and warm shelter that breathes with the ocean climate. |
